Suzanne NG

Programme Chair, Republic Polytechnic
Diploma in Wellness and Hospitality Business
Diploma in Wellness, Lifestyle and Spa Management

Suzanne Ng has held management and consulting positions in New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong and China.

She has worked with major hospitality and wellness brands such as Spa Finder Japan, Mandarin Oriental New York and Tokyo, Westin Hotel Tokyo, Shangri-La Tokyo, Lotte Group and Six Senses. And for projects in China for Chateau Star River in Guangzhou and consulting projects in Xian and Chengdu.

Suzanne majored in Economics and Psychology at the National University of Singapore and did her post-graduate Diploma in International Management at INSEAD (France) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management Consultancy and Change at Poon Kam Kai Institute of Management, The University of Hong Kong. She is the Programme Chair in the School of Hospitality at Republic Polytechnic for the Diploma in Wellness, Lifestyle and Spa Management as well as the Diploma in Wellness and Hospitality Business.

Suzanne is also one of the members of the Spa and Wellness Association Singapore and held the position of Education Director. She has attended and presented at some of the key international wellness events such as the Global Wellness Summit in New York and India, ISPA (International Spa Association), Cornell- Asia Spa Institute Japan, Wellness Summit in Singapore and Cosmoprof in Hong Kong, Asia Pacific Spa and Wellness Council and the Aging Investment Conference.

Suzanne teaches across a range of Wellness and Hospitality subjects from Health Psychology, Spa and Wellness Operations, Wellness and Medical Tourism, Hospitality Revenue and Service Quality and Professional Etiquette. And she has done several research projects on the Singapore Wellness Industry. In Republic Polytechnic, she was commissioned by Spa and Wellness Association Singapore and Spring Singapore to conduct a focus group study on the Wellness Industry in Singapore, 2012. She also conducted a Feasibility study for assessing the viability of setting up Wellness Medicine Screening systems and associated therapeutic service in Spas in South East Asia, 2011. The research was also funded by Spring Singapore. As well as an Exploratory Study on Consumers’ Responses to the Spa, Beauty and Wellness Warranty Insurance Plan in Singapore, 2010.

Lynn TAN

Director, School of Business & Services,
ITE College East

As the Director of School of Business & Services (College East), Lynn and her team are responsible for the curriculum delivery and success of the students. Under the Beauty and Wellness cluster, Lynn and her team worked closely with sectorial and industry stakeholders, trade associations to develop and rejuvenate the curriculum. Annually, students from Technical Diploma in Beauty and Wellness Management, Higher Nitec in Beauty and Wellness Management and Higher Nitec in Hairdressing and Salon Management have been identified as the local talent pipeline to meet the manpower needs of Singapore as a prominent spa and wellness destination.

The students have been representing Singapore in the ASEAN Skills and WorldSkills Competition annually. Recognising that overseas internships is pertinent to their readiness, Lynn’s students have been given the opportunities to intern out of Singapore through collaboration with spa chains with international offices, reputable beauty products manufacturers and education institutions.

Lynn contributes to Singapore’s Industry Transformation Road Map through her membership in the Sectorial Committee for Sports and Wellness. She is committed to developing strategic collaborations with local spa and wellness partners and major stakeholders to provide more opportunities for her students.

Who is SWAS?

Spa and Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS) was founded in 2004 in response to the need of an association to reach out to all sectors of the Beauty & Wellness Industry. In 2021, the association was renamed to Specialists in Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS) to better represent the industry.

Over the years, the Specialists in Wellness Association Singapore has developed from an interest group representing Beauty & Wellness establishments to a confederation of trade groups representing stakeholders within the framework of the Beauty & Wellness Industry. The association actively promotes the business interests of all stakeholders in Wellness, Beauty, Hair, Nail and associated Holistic Care & Service industry.

The judging process for the SWAS Excellence Star Awards involves a panel of industry experts who evaluate each nominee based on criteria such as innovation, business growth, customer satisfaction, and contributions to the Beauty & Wellness industry. The panel reviews submitted materials, conducts interviews if necessary, and scores each nominee to determine the award recipients.

Mr Desmond Choo is a Member of Parliament for the Tampines Group Representative Constituency and the Adviser to the Tampines Changkat Grassroots Organisations. Concurrently, he is the Mayor of North East District. Mr Desmond Choo oversees social and community development for 18 constituencies.

Mr Desmond Choo is also the Assistant Secretary-General and Director of Policy Division at NTUC. He oversees the economic and social policies, strategic communications and international affairs. He is also the Executive Secretary of the Union of Telecoms Employees of Singapore and Advisor to the Young NTUC Committee.

Within the Labour Movement, Mr Desmond Choo is the Advisor to the Attractions, Resorts & Entertainment Union, Singapore Union of Broadcasting Employees and Union of Security Employees. He is also the Trustee of Singapore Shell Employees’ Union. He is the Secretary of the Industrial Relations Committee (Service Sector) as well as a Member of the Training Council and Industrial Relations Council.
